JDR Motorsports/Motorex/KTM rider PJ Larsen claimed the 2010 Rockstar Energy Australian MX Nationals title in the Pro Lites category one round early during Coolum’s mega double-header season finale in Queensland on July 24 & 25.
Larsen’s top finishing scores throughout the season gave him an 84 point advantage heading to the final round which allowed him to take the championship after Saturday’s race and gave him the opportunity to run his new #1 plate during Sunday’s event.
Saturday’s race was comprised of three 8-lap motos. Larsen pulled the holeshot in the first moto and went on to finish 2nd in the moto. He finished 2nd and 4th respectively in the next two motos to take 3rd overall for the day and the Championship.
The series win marks a fitting finale to what has been a dominant season for Larsen and the JDR Motorsports outfit in its maiden season in cooperation with KTM, the team taking out the title on the weekend using the all-new 2011 KTM 250 SX-F model.
“It means a lot to me to win this title after getting the opportunity to come and do a season in Australia with the JDR Motorsports/Motorex/KTM Team” commented the 19-year-old, who is originally from South Carolina. “I’m glad that we could come out with the championship.”
The championship victory is a proud moment for the JDR Motorsports team, winning the title in memory of teammate Andrew McFarlane, who was tragically killed in at Broadford’s third round of the title earlier this season.
“The whole team has been working really hard because we wanted to win the title for Andrew – the whole goal was to go and do our best, make Andrew proud, and I think that we did a good job of it” Larsen said, eventually winning with a comfortable margin of 65 points.
With the pressures of the championship challenge off his shoulders for Sunday’s round, California-based Larsen endured a difficult end to the season by his standards, taking out 4th overall with a consistent run of 4-5-4 results.
“It definitely wasn’t the best weekend for me” he reflected. “I’ve been resting up an ankle injury that I suffered in the lead-up to Moree, but all in all we made the best of what we had, won the championship and that’s all that matters.”
“Winning the Pro Lites title is a first for PJ, it’s a first for the JDR team and it’s a first for the 2011 model KTM 250 SX-F” Team Manager Jay Rynenberg commented. “I think PJ really proved a point to the Americans as well that he’s going to be a guy to be reckoned with next year. It’s a credit to his work ethic and a really good day for JDR.”
Team JDR Motorex KTM team will now be preparing for the upcoming Super X Australasian Supercross Championship, which is scheduled to kick-off at Energy Australia Stadium in Newcastle on October 16, 2010.
As for Larsen, he will return to the United States for the next two months and prepare for the Australian Supercross Series while in California. During his first week back he plans to relax and watch some racing instead of participate. “I am planning on going to the X-Games and then to Loretta Lynn’s in order to just catch up with some friends and take a break.”

Osborne hangs onto British Championship lead after head-banging ride at Foxhill
Zach Osborne continues to lead the Maxxis British Championship on his Bike it Cosworth Yamaha YZ250F despite a morning practice crash at Foxhill for round five that saw the American lose consciousness and then have to fight the effects of a concussion to obtain his fourth podium trophy in the competition.
The 20 year old from Virginia sustained his head malaise after a heavy tumble caused by a greasy and rocky jump take-off. The fifth round of eight in the competitive British series took place in front of a decent crowd who witnessed Osborne not only ignoring pain in his head, neck and thumb to compete but also pull off a gutsy performance to take 3rd overall.
Roczen Podiums in Germany Against the 450s
Ken Roczen raced to a podium position on his Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2 RM-Z250 against the bigger 450cc machines in the ADAC MX Masters German Championship with third overall at Tensfeld for the fifth round of eight in the series.
The 16 year old set a blistering speed in the soft and bumpy terrain to register fourth and second place in the two motos; spraying champagne on the podium with fellow Suzuki riders Steve Ramon and Clement Desalle as the Tensfeld rostrum was coloured ‘Suzuki Yellow.’
Roczen’s first race was inspiring after the GP winner became entangled in a second corner pile-up and then set-about regaining what ground he could. He flew back from a slot of 36th and pushed up to fourth; recording the same lap-times as leaders Desalle and Ramon. Roczen enjoyed a better and drama-free start in the next moto and plagued Ramon in the closing stages after infiltrating the top five. He was second by the time of the chequered flag.
Ramon Wins at Germany Motocross 5th Round
Rockstar Teka Suzuki World MX1’s Steve Ramon won a hard physical day of racing at Tensfeld today for the fifth round of eight in the 2010 ADAC MX Masters.
The latest instalment of the German Championship took place at the heavy and deep sandy circuit near Lubeck and in warm conditions. It was a good event for Suzuki as Ramon took overall honours with 2nd and 1st positions in the two motos on his RM-Z450WS as team-mate Clement Desalle was runner-up and won the opening sprint. Rounding out the podium in the MX Master class was Ken Roczen (Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2) on his RM-Z250.
The sand of Tensfeld was seen as ideal preparation for the two Suzuki teams with the Grand Prix of Limburg at Lommel in Belgium occurring next weekend in similar terrain.

Maddison Masterful in Madrid
Cheered on by 25,000 rabid fans, Australia’s Robbie Maddison tamed Madrid’s legendary bullfighting ring on Friday night as he secured victory against the best freestyle motocross riders on the planet. Second place went to the Swiss rider Mat Rebeaud, with the Red Bull X-Fighters filling the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas right down to the very last seat for the ninth year running.
MADRID – The sound of wailing motors rang through the tunnels around the famous bullfighting arena as the two-wheeled toreros raced towards the kickers at up to 45 miles per hour. It was Aussie superstar Robbie Maddison – famous for starring in the Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. in 2007 and 2008, jumping over London’s iconic Tower Bridge in 2009 and sailing across the Corinth Canal in Greece in 2010 – who raised the bar yet again in the Spanish capital with a brand-new trick, completing one full rotation of his body over the bike while almost 50 feet in the air before returning to the saddle to nail the trick and ride away. “The Volt Body Varial definitely helped me win,” grinned the man from Down Under after his victory, adding: “I still can’t believe it!”
